Virtual Commencement

During the COVID-19 pandemic, institutions worldwide had to innovate, and FIU was no exception. I played a critical role in creating the FIU Virtual Commencement, whose goal was to allow students to return to some form of normalcy and celebrate their graduation. Using Meta Spark Studio, I designed an augmented reality filter to allow students to virtually wear a graduation cap complete with their school's tassel, providing a unique and interactive way to mark their achievements and celebrate their success.

The Commencement AR Filter quickly became one of the most successful filters developed for FIU, even after the pandemic subsided. I was proud to see students continuing to use it to commemorate their graduation and share their success on social media, highlighting its lasting impact.

I was thrilled to contribute to FIU's commitment to innovation and creativity in challenging circumstances. The Commencement AR Filter provided students with an exciting and interactive option to celebrate their accomplishments, even when traditional ceremonies were impossible. This project demonstrates the university's dedication to providing students with unique and memorable experiences, even in the most challenging of times.

During the pandemic students were also playing the game Animal Crossing on their Nintendo Switch systems. During this vitual campaign we went on to build a virtual commencement ceremony in Animal Crossing as well as commencement gowns and FIU branded apparel in game for students to use. This was featured on NBC News.
